Review: A Course In Weight Loss

Written by Raymond Salas

As many struggle with the challenges of weight loss and excess weight, spiritual teacher and best-selling author Marianne Williamson introduced a ground-breaking approach in her book “A Course In Weight Loss: 21 Spiritual Lessons for Surrendering Your Weight Forever.”

While other books and programs focus primarily on making different food, exercise, and lifestyle choices, Marianne presents a cohesive 21-step program for healing the root causes of weight-related issues through the retraining of your consciousness instead.

She explains that “unless your subconscious mind is enrolled in your weight-loss efforts, it will find a way to reconstitute the excess weight regardless of what you do.”

Therefore, she has designed this course in weight loss as “a lesson plan in aligning your thinking with the spiritual principles that will set you free. As your mind is trained to let go of its fear, your body will let go of its excess pounds.”

Why is this so effective?

Because “neither poor diet nor lack of exercise are the cause of your excess weight. Mind is cause; body is effect.”

A Course In Weight Loss

Overall, I found the lessons easy to follow, but they will require a little time to complete the exercises given for each one.

Similar to the very successful 12-step programs for overcoming alcohol, drug, and other addictions, the keys to this course in weight loss include:

  • identifying the underlying causes of your fear and pain
  • surrendering it to your Higher Power
  • forgiving yourself and others
  • learning to love yourself in all ways
  • developing the discipline and support to stay committed to this healing process and all that is required

For me, the power of “A Course In Weight Loss” is how Marianne skillfully guides the reader back to the the body’s natural intelligence where perfect weight is achieved and maintained through the mind’s alignment with its own perfection.

“Only when you learn to commit to yourself will you stop your self-sabotaging behavior. It’s not enough to just tell yourself what not to do; you must learn a new way to think before you can master a new way to be.”
- Marianne Williamson

“A Course In Weight Loss” now gives you the tools and shows you the path that will lead you to this new way of being.
